On December 14,Chengxin Lithium`s Sabi Star Lithium Mine Project was inspected by Zimbabwean President Emerson Mnangagwa, the Vice President of Zimbabwe, the Minister of Mining and Mining Development, and the Chairman of the Zimbabwe Mining Association.
Xinhua News Agency, Zimbabwe National Television, the Zimbabwe Newspaper Television Network, and other mainstream media at home and abroad have shown keen interest in covering this event.
The Local Outreach Manager of the Sabi Star Project, Mugova Elfas, provided a comprehensive briefing to the President on the progress of mine development and construction, external road upgrading, mineral processing infrastructure construction, and thermal power plant construction. Additionally, a detailed report was presented on the project's involvement in constructing local community roads, houses, living wells and clinics, as well as renovating primary and secondary schools.
The Sabi Star project is anticipated to be completed and commence production early next year with an annual production capacity of approximately 2000 tons of lithium concentrate. Upon reaching full operational capacity, the project will create 500 to 600 job opportunities for locals, thereby alleviating employment pressure in the area.
Following his visit to the project site, the President personally operated an excavator to finalize the foundation work for the project before addressing all participants.
The president emphasized:"This investment project represents a significant opportunity for us and has the potential to evolve into a comprehensive industrial chain with high production capacity and added value that aligns with our expectations. Together with other investments, this project will drive the modernization, industrialization, and economic growth of Zimbabwe. I anticipate that Chinese professionals involved in this project will provide training and share relevant expertise with our local workforce to cultivate a highly skilled labor force for Zimbabwe, in line with the objectives outlined in National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) guiding our mining industry development."
The president also emphasized that the project is dedicated to fostering economic prosperity for a larger population within the region and province, thereby improving the livelihoods of Zimbabweans. He expressed his satisfaction with the project's pre-operational contributions to Haila residents, particularly its initiative to enhance educational facilities in local primary and secondary schools.
This noteworthy endeavor will bring multifaceted benefits to the local community and drive economic growth in the area. The Sabi Star lithium project marks a departure from unsustainable mining practices that previously harmed the environment and failed to benefit local communities or Zimbabwe as a whole.
